Privacy policy

helixnetball.com/privacy · Effective 27 July 2026 · Applies to the HELIX mobile app and the helixnetball.com website

HELIX is operated by Richard Thornton trading as HELIX Netball (ABN 41 457 527 181), a sole trader based in Victoria, Australia ("we", "us"). We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

The short version: your match data stays on your device unless you deliberately send it to someone. The app has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The only information we ever receive is what you deliberately send us — a feedback message, a waitlist sign-up, or an optional crash report if the app breaks.

1. Match data stays on your device

Everything you record in HELIX — teams, players, seasons, matches, lineups, statistics and settings — is stored locally on your device in the app's own database. It is never transmitted to us. We cannot see it, access it or recover it.

Because of this:

  • The app needs no account and no sign-in, and works entirely offline.
  • Deleting the app permanently deletes your data. The copies you create yourself — PDF or CSV reports, or a team file you share with another HELIX user (section 2) — are the only copies that exist outside the app, and making and sending them is entirely under your control.
  • Player names you enter are visible only to you, on your device, unless you choose to share a team file that contains them. We never receive them either way.

2. Sharing a team with someone else

HELIX can export one team's season as a single file that you send to another person — a co-coach or team manager — who imports it into their own copy of HELIX. This is the only way match data leaves your device, and it happens only when you choose it.

  • We are not involved. The file is created on your device and sent by whatever means you pick — AirDrop, a message, email. It does not pass through us. We never receive it, and we could not read it if we did.
  • What it contains: the matches, statistics and lineups for the one team and season you selected, including the names of the players in that team.
  • It is encrypted. The file can only be opened with a five-word code the app shows you once, when you create it. The code is not written into the file and is not sent with it — you pass it to the recipient separately. Without the code the file cannot be opened by anyone, including us.
  • After you send it, it is theirs. The recipient has their own copy of that data, on their device, under their control. Consider that before sharing — particularly where junior players' names are involved (section 7).

3. Crash reports (optional)

If the app crashes or encounters an unhandled error, it can send us a diagnostic report so we can find and fix the fault. This is the only automatic network activity in the app.

  • What a report contains: the technical error and stack trace, the app version, and general device information such as the model and operating system version.
  • What a report never contains: your match data, team or player names, your name, your email address, or anything else identifying you. Reports are actively filtered to exclude personal information before they are sent.
  • Your control: crash reporting is on by default and can be turned off at any time in Settings → Crash reporting. When it is off, nothing is sent.

Crash reports are processed on our behalf by Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.), whose servers are located in the United States. Reports are retained for a limited period for diagnostic purposes and then deleted.

4. Feedback you send from the app

The feedback form in Settings asks for your name, email address and message. When you send it, the message is delivered by email to our inbox at hello@helixnetball.com. We use this information only to read and respond to your feedback. Delivery is handled on our behalf by Resend, Inc. (United States), and our inbox is hosted by Zoho Corporation.

5. The website

helixnetball.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics. If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address, which we use only to contact you about HELIX's availability. You can ask us to remove it at any time. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., and waitlist emails are delivered by Resend, Inc.

6. Service providers and overseas disclosure

We do not sell, rent or share personal information with anyone for their own purposes. The limited information described above is processed by these providers solely to deliver the services described: Cloudflare (website hosting), Resend (email delivery), Zoho (email inbox) and Sentry (crash diagnostics). These providers store data in the United States and may process it in other regions in which they operate.

7. Children

HELIX is a tool for coaches, team managers and parents; it is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Player names recorded in the app — including those of junior players — are never received by us.

Those names exist on the user's own device, and the one way they can reach another device is a team file the user deliberately creates and sends (section 2). If you share a team, you are passing those players' names to the person you send it to, and it is worth being sure that is appropriate before you do.

8. Security

Match data is protected by your device's own security (passcode, encryption and app sandboxing). The small amount of information we do receive is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access to it is limited to the operator.

A team file you export (section 2) is encrypted with a key derived from the five-word code the app generates for it. The code is never stored in the file, never stored on your device after you leave the screen, and never sent to us — so a file intercepted on its way to the recipient is unreadable without the code, and we cannot open one even if we are given it.

9. Access, correction and deletion

Your match data is yours and on your device — you can view, edit, export or delete it in the app at any time without asking us. For anything we hold (feedback correspondence or a waitlist entry), contact hello@helixnetball.com and we will provide access to it, correct it or delete it.

10. Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, contact us at hello@helixnetball.com and we will respond promptly. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. The current version is always at helixnetball.com/privacy, with its effective date shown above. Material changes will be reflected there before they take effect.
