Help

helixnetball.com/help · Updated 17 July 2026

HELIX records a netball match in two taps and turns it into statistics you can trust. This page covers how the app is organised, how recording works, what each report shows and where to get help.

Getting around

The app has four tabs.

  • Teams — your teams. Each card shows the team's colour, players and matches. Tap + to create a team; open one for its matches, squad, lineups and opponents.
  • Seasons — the seasons your teams play in. Every match belongs to a season, and each season has its own stats. Hold and drag to reorder the list.
  • Players — one pool of players shared across all your teams. A player can be in more than one squad, and their stats follow them wherever they play.
  • Settings — crash reporting, links to this site and the feedback form.

Your team

Open a team to find four pages.

  • Matches — every match the team has played, grouped by season. Tap + to set up a new match: opponent, season, date, period format, venue and a starting lineup, then start recording.
  • Players — the team's squad. Add players from your shared pool, or create new ones on the spot.
  • Lineups — saved lineups you can use again. Build one once, then load it at match setup or between periods.
  • Opponents — the clubs you play. Each opponent keeps a head-to-head record you can check before you meet again.

The chart button in the team header opens the team's stats — record, trends, leaders and the full season breakdown.

Recording a match

Recording is built for the sideline: fast, forgiving and safe to put down.

  • Two taps per event. Tap a position and an event type, in either order. The stat saves straight away and the court resets for the next play.
  • Ten event types. Shooting (goal, miss), gains (intercept, rebound), losses (bad pass, footwork, held ball, error) and penalties (contact, obstruction). Only combinations that make sense for a position can be armed.
  • Misses and rebounds. A miss records the shot, not what became of the ball. If your team regathered it, tap rebound against the position that took it — two taps, each for something you saw.
  • Losses and penalties are different. A loss is a possession you gave away. A penalty is contact or obstruction conceded while the opposition had the ball — it costs a penalty pass, not a possession, so it never counts as a loss.
  • Forced turnovers. Pair the opposition Team chip with held ball or error to record a turnover you forced — it counts to the opposing team as a whole, not a position.
  • The clock. Counts down each period and can be set to match the venue clock. Everything saves as it happens, so if the app closes mid-game it reopens paused exactly where you left off.
  • Centre pass. Alternates automatically with each goal. Tap to swap it if it ever drifts from the umpire's call.
  • Substitutions. Hold a position chip to swap players during play. Court time is tracked per player.
  • Period breaks. Between periods you see the score, the period just played and your lineup for the next one — carry it forward, adjust it or load a saved lineup.
  • Undo and redo. Every event and substitution can be undone, and the full history is there to fix mistakes during the match or after it.

Reports

Every stats screen has a share button in its header. Each report exports as a PDF ready to send to the team chat, or a CSV you can open in a spreadsheet. The samples below show the kind of data each one carries.

Match report

The full record of one match, shared from the match summary — the one to send when the final whistle goes. It carries the score worm (the lead across the whole match), centre pass and other conversion rates, and breakdowns by position, by player and by period.

Stat cards

Tap any row on a stats screen — a position, a player or a period — to open it as a card of its own, with each stat named and explained. Player cards add court time by position; period cards add the conversion rates. Use them for the quick answer to one question.

Team report

A team's season in one document, shared from the team stats screen. Choose one season or all matches. It carries the record, every result, breakdowns by position and by player, a players table with games, court time and shooting %, and the MVP standings. Use it for the end-of-season wrap-up or a mid-season check-in.

Season report

The widest view, shared from a season's stats screen. It spans every team that played in the season, so it adds a by-team table — record, goals and difference side by side — along with season-wide results, position and player breakdowns, and head-to-head records by opponent. Use it when you run more than one team and want the whole-club picture.

U13 HornetsWon 6 · Lost 5289–301−12

Head-to-head report

Your record against one club, shared from the opponent's stats screen. Choose one season or all seasons. It lists every result, your team's stats across those games, and the home and away split. Use it in the week you play them again.

Sample · head-to-head report

Player report

One player's story, shared from their stats screen. Choose all teams or one team. It opens with their best games — sharpest shooting, most goals, most gains — then breaks their season down by position, lists results and court time, and shows how their share of court time is trending. Use it for player feedback, or for parents who want the season in numbers.

Reading the stats

The same abbreviations run through every screen and report.

  • G Goals — shots that went in.
  • M Misses — shots that did not go in.
  • S% Shooting % — how often shots went in.
  • I Intercepts — balls won straight from the opposition.
  • R Rebounds — missed shots regathered.
  • OHB · OE Opposition held ball · error — held-ball calls and errors forced against the opposition. Whole-team stats, so they appear in team and period rows only.
  • L Losses — possessions lost, broken down into bad pass, footwork, held ball and error.
  • P Penalties — infringements conceded, broken down into contact and obstruction. Given away while the opposition had the ball, so a penalty costs a penalty pass rather than a possession — never a loss.
  • CvC% Centre pass conversion — how often your centre pass produced a shot before the ball was lost.
  • Cv% Other conversion — how often a ball you won produced a shot before it was lost again.
  • +/− Plus–minus — the change in the score margin while a player was on court.

Getting support

The quickest way is the feedback form in the app: open Settings and tap Send feedback. Tell us what's working, what's not or what you'd like to see — we read every one.

You can also email hello@helixnetball.com. If something isn't behaving, mention your app version — it's shown at the bottom of Settings.
